Famous in Print, Too!

If you haven't heard by now (and surely you have), Sharon & I were recently featured in VegNews Magazine. They do an annual feature on vegan weddings, and ours was one of the eight selected from 2007. This issue is in news stands now, so keep an eye out. If you're having a hard time finding a copy, let us know and we'll help you out.

As if that wasn't enough already, VegNews also invited us – along with the other Bay Area couple featured, Amanda & JC – out to their fantastic beach-side office for lunch last week. You can read all about it and check out some pictures at the CafĂ© VegNews blog.

Famous on the internet

Tim and I were featured today on one of my favorite wedding blogs. Check it out!

We're actually probably one of the more conventional weddings that get featured on the site, in that neither of us are rockstars, we did not arrive in coffins, and R2D2 was not a member of our wedding party. Oh well, at least I have tattoos.

While I'm bragging, I don't think I've mentioned on here that we're also going to be featured in the April/May 2008 issue of VegNews magazine. They do an annual wedding feature and we were chosen to be included next year! We're in good company - two years ago they featured Dennis Kucinich's wedding.

It also occurs to me that I can't recall if I've ever linked to the blog I currently write for:

In my last post I mention the recent Green Festival I attended for my new job, which is awesome, by the way. Looking back I'm fairly sure that I wouldn't have gotten this job without the blogging I do. Leave it to me to parlay my wedding into a career. The Green Options Editor asked if I'd be interested in blogging on green weddings for their site. Well of course I would! So I may soon be a professional blogger as well. And here I am, giving out my words for free...

We work hard for the money...

Well, the biggest news lately is that both Tim and I have recently taken on new jobs. Today Tim finished up his first week at Atlassian where he's working as a Developer for plugins for Jira and Confluence (two tools you probably wouldn't know unless you work for a tech company, yourself). Their offices are walking distance to our place, and he's working with our friend Stewart, who you may remember as an Usher at our wedding. So far the culture seems to be a much better fit for him. Their headquarters are in Sydney, Australia so there may be some Koalas and Kangaroos in our future.

And today I started training for my new job with GreenOptions.com. It's a big career change for me, being my first non-nonprofit job, a "green" company, and a tech start-up. I'm working as their Office Manager and one of my first tasks is finding them offices to manage. Right now we've got about a dozen employees working from home, only half of whom are local to the Bay Area. I've got a bit of a learning curve when it comes to tools for online collaboration, but luckily I married someone who's pretty well-versed on the subject.

I'm working part-time as an independent contractor through the end of the year, and then hopefully going full-time in January. It's nice because it works out perfectly with the schedule I've committed to at my other job as an Admissions Interviewer at The Urban School which ties me up four afternoons a week through mid-December.

I guess you could say it's been a big year in our household. Now, if only we could get the cat off his lazy butt to start earning his keep.

The New Site is Up!

Sharon & I just uploaded a completely redesigned version of our website! The new site has a link to photo galleries from the wedding, a full transcription of the ceremony, and information about getting wedding favors if you missed them at the reception—a CD with selected music from the wedding and reception, and herb & spice blends we got from Mountain Rose Herbs.

Take a look at http://sharonandtim.info and let us know what you think.

Our New England Excursion

This past weekend, Tim and I took a trip to New England. It had been a long time since we'd seen real seasons - with leaves changing colors and everything. The original intent of the trip was to see our friends William and Kate get married in central Massachusetts. We figured it would be a good opportunity to also see a big portion of Tim's family, many of whom were unable to join us for our wedding.

It was a nice chance for a Moore family reunion - and for me to meet most of these new family members for the first time. Tim's Mom organized a reception for us at the Sturbridge Host. We were treated to the same slideshow from the rehearsal dinner and I had also put one together from the professional wedding pictures.

Everyone was very nice, and I wish I'd had longer to get to know everyone. Unfortunately we were also in town on a somewhat sadder note. My Uncle Tom recently had a stroke, and that afternoon we visited him and my Aunt Cheri at a Rehabilitation Hospital in Rhode Island. The good news is that the stroke hit on the right side which means it affects motor skills, but not cognition. So he was still cracking jokes (asking the Nurses to bring him a Manhattan on the rocks), but is unfortunately largely confined to a wheel chair.

He was doing better than I'd expected though, and it sounds like he's making good progress, and everyone seems optimistic. It's not often I make it out to that neck of the woods, so I'm glad I got to visit while I could.

We got to sight-see around Boston a bit during our stay, but frankly we're also happy and relieved to be back home in San Francisco, where we don't have to drive, there's plenty of vegan food, nobody cares about the Red Sox, and I don't care what you say - it is WAY warmer.

ETA: If anyone else has pictures please send them to us, and we'll throw them up on flickr. Also edited to spell my husband's name correctly. Doh.

Welcome to the new blog

Now that the wedding is over, we thought this would be a good way to post various updates, and answer the number one question we're asked these days: "So, how's married life?"

The easy answer is: it rules.

Look forward to the latest news about Tony Danza, information on upcoming trips, new career developments, and more...
